60BAG™
60BAG.COM™
A pioneering project of Polish ecological design
2007–2012

Introduction
60bag.com was an innovative project of biodegradable utility bags, carried out between 2007 and 2012/13.
Today, it constitutes a closed chapter in the history of Polish ecological design and serves as a point of departure for the further development of the idea of responsible design within the authorial professional activity of designer Remigiusz (Ziarno) Truchanowicz.
The 60bag.com project was among the pioneering examples in Poland of conscious design, based on specific material properties,
an analysis of the full product life cycle, and its actual environmental impact.

Genesis and Concept of the Project
The 60bag.com project was initiated in 2007-2008 as a response to the growing problem of single-use plastic packaging, whose decomposition time is measured in hundreds of years.
The fundamental assumption of the project was to create functional utility bags based on an innovative biodegradable material developed by a Polish scientific institute, which underwent complete biodegradation within approximately 60 days after disposal
in a composting environment.
The concept of the 60bag.com project was inextricably linked to the properties of this specific material.
It did not merely serve as a carrier of form but constituted the foundation of the entire design system, determining the construction, function, and manner of product use.

Design and Form-Giving
The design of 60bag.com was conceived as a minimalist and functional system, originally entirely subordinated to the properties
of a uniquely dedicated biodegradable material.
The form did not serve a decorative function - it was a direct consequence of the technology, its structure, durability, and decomposition process.
The design and construction of the products were strictly adapted to the technological parameters of the applied material, forming
a coherent and closed design system in accordance with the original assumptions of the project.
The 60bag.com bags were presented as an example of a new approach to design, taking into account the full life cycle of the product, from raw material, through use, to biodegradation.
Design understood in this manner became a reference point for the designer’s further authorial design work.

Operation of the Project
The 60bag.com project operated actively between 2008 and 2012.
During this period, it was developed as a coherent design system based on clearly defined material, technological, and environmental assumptions.
Due to the strict interdependence of form, function, and concept with one specific material, the project could not be continued independently of the production of that material.

Project Termination
In the years 2011-2012, the production of the material forming the basis of the project concept was definitively and unequivocally discontinued by the manufacturing plant and the scientific institute, independently of the designer’s will.
As a result of the inseparable link between the product concepts and this material, the 60bag.com brand terminated its production
and sales activities.
The project was thereby closed as a complete chapter in the history of Polish ecological design, for reasons independent
of the designer’s decisions.

Legal Status and Authorship
In 2011, the copyrights to the 60bag.com designs, strictly connected with the material used in the project, were sold.
The designer, Remigiusz (Ziarno) Truchanowicz, while continuously retaining the derivative rights to the designs/works, was, under
the applicable provisions of copyright law, exclusively entitled to undertake creative work on the further development of authorial design concepts based on new materials, technologies, and ecological assumptions, independently of the 60bag.com project.

Legacy and Continuity of the Idea
The discontinuation of material production did not signify the end of the idea of responsible design.
The knowledge and experience gained by the designer during many years of design practice and brand creation, including within
the 60bag.com project, constitute the foundation for further activities in the areas of:
  • material innovation,
  • design engineering,
  • a systemic approach to quality, responsibility, and ethics.

A natural consequence of this way of thinking was the decision to establish the authorial brand RTRTED™, under which new product lines and technologies are being developed in the spirit of modern, innovative design.
-independently of the closed, historical chapter of 60bag.com.

Legal Notice and Project Status
The website 60bag.com is of an archival and documentary nature.
The 60bag.com project does not conduct and cannot resume production or sales activities due to the definitive termination
of production of the material constituting the foundation of the project’s concept, as well  as the applicable scope of copyright law,
including the lack of any possibility to interfere with the work without holding derivative rights, which effectively excludes actions
contrary to the original design assumptions.

The designer holds full moral and economic copyrights to the name and word-and-graphic trademark 60bag.com,
as well as to its constituent elements.

Derivative rights to the design (works) continuously and exclusively belong to the designer, Remigiusz (Ziarno) Truchanowicz,
and have never been transferred to third parties. Under the applicable provisions of copyright law, he alone is entitled to independently
decide on the further development of authorial design concepts and to conduct creative work, regardless of the closed 60bag.com project.

The project was concluded for reasons beyond control.
The preserved design was given a new, autonomous life through the vision and determination of the Designer.
